What Can Go Wrong With an Automobile Cooling System?

/ 41

Your automobile’s cooling system can get clogged if you fail to maintain it. It can also spring a leak. We are going to talk more about this below. You can avoid problems with your cooling system if you have it serviced every 30,000 miles. This is the general recommendation for servicing this system. You can check your owner’s manual to see if your vehicle’s manufacturer recommends a different duration.

Clogged System

One of the things that happens to cooling systems is they can get clogged. They can be clogged by dirt and sediment that finds its way into the coolant. If the cooling system is serviced every 30,000 miles, it will be flushed to remove the dirt out of the system hoses and the radiator. This helps restore the coolant flow to keep your engine running at a normal operating temperature.

Leaking System

Flushing the cooling system also allows us to check for leaks. If one of the hoses is leaking, we can replace it to make sure that your coolant level remains normal. If a leak is not detected and repaired, the engine will slowly lose coolant and start to overheat. Unfortunately, the engine will overheat whenever you drive your utility vehicle, car, or truck.

Faulty Thermostat

The average lifespan of the thermostat is approximately 10 years. In terms of mileage, this is approximately 100,000 miles. If the thermostat is going bad, it may fail to release coolant into the engine. When this happens, your engine will overheat quickly after you start it.

Faulty Water Pump

The water pump has the same approximate lifespan. If it goes bad, you will end up with poor coolant circulation. This means that the engine will start to overheat in the places where there is little to no coolant cooling it down. Replacing the water pump solves this problem.

Damaged Radiator

Finally, the radiator can get damaged over time. It’s just a natural thing in its aging process. The radiator air inlets can get clogged by dirt and debris, the radiator fan can break down, and the radiator can get clogged or start to leak. The latter happens if the radiator bottom is corroded and the rust is eating through the metal. This will make the radiator leak engine coolant.

Call us today to schedule a service appointment for your cooling system if it has been more than 30,000 miles since the system was maintained. We will inspect the system thoroughly to make sure you don’t have any problems.
